Of Journals and Men
Giving a brief account of the bipolarization of the literary field and the blossoming of the journal at the end of the 19th century, Anna Boschetti shows that most of the changes in the intellectual life of our century spring from the jounal. In the same way, the most important figures of intellectual history have been « men of journals ». Her methods of analysis differ from the ones used habitually and she places herself in the tradition of Pierre Bourdieu’s « work in progress ». The journal is seen as a space of relationships which itself is included in a system of interdependent spaces (the fields). She highlights, in particular, the interactions between a creator and a journal or between a journal and the social and political context.
