The hegemony of british and american economics magazines

In economics, as in many other fields, the magazine plays a fundamental role in the propagation and the evaluation of scientific research. Based on a bibliometric study of articles published between 1980 and 1987 in six of the most important British and American economics magazines (The American Economic Review, The Journal of Economic Literature, Journal of Political Economy, Economica, The Economic Journal, The Review of Economic Studies), Joëlle Devillard – who is preparing a thesis on that subject – describes the present hegemony of these magazines according to the geographic distribution of their authors and the topics that they cover.
