Le Chat Murr, puis Melmoth furent les premiers fanzines animés par Xavier Legrand-Ferronnière avant qu’il n’édite à partir de 1984 et jusqu’en 1987, les premiers fascicules à l’enseigne du Visage vert (titre inspiré de Gustave Meyrinck ) dédiés « aux courants souterrains de la littérature » : ils deviendront une revue en 1995. Au moment de la création du Visage Vert, en compagnie de Norbert Gaulard, l’horizon en matière de littérature fantastique, envisagée dans ses multiples déclinaisons, est désert. La revue a très vite trouvé la formule à laquelle elle restera fidèle : publication de textes rares ou inédits, des présentations, des articles et une bibliographie précise. Pendant 6 ans (jusqu’en 2003), la revue dont le tirage avoisine les 1 000 exemplaires bénéficie de la complicité de l’éditrice Joëlle Losfeld. Puis elle rejoint jusqu’à son numéro 17 les Éditions Zulma, retrouvant son sous-titre initial « revue de littérature », passe à une périodicité annuelle et, sous une maquette refondue, s’ouvre davantage à des créateurs contemporains. Désormais adossée à la publication d’une vingtaine de titres, la revue est devenue son propre éditeur.
[The Cat Murr], followed by Melmoth were the first fanzines animated by Xavier Legrand-Ferronnière before he published the first leaflets under the title [The Green Face] (a title inspired from Gustave Meyrinck) from 1984 to 1987, dedicated to “the subterranean currents of literature”. These became a full-blown review in 1995. When Le Visage vert was created in association with Norbert Gaulard, the horizon as far as fantasy literature considered in its multiple occurrences was empty. The review soon found the formula to which it would remain faithful: publishing rare or previously unpublished texts, presentations, articles and a precise bibliography. During 6 years, until 2003, with a circulation of around 1 000 copies, the review enjoyed the complicity of the editor Joëlle Losfeld. Then from its 17th issue it was taken over by the Éditions Zulma, getting back its early subtitle “literary review”, became a yearly periodical and, with a new layout, opened its pages more widely to contemporary creators. Now well grounded in the publication of some 20 titles, the review has become its own editor.
