Entre 1985 et 2009, la revue Pleine marge, qui emprunte son titre au poème d’André Breton, a publié, au Temps qu’il fait, à Cognac, puis chez Peeters, à Louvain, 50 numéros, consacrés au « surréalisme et autres modernités ». Le « cahier » orné de la « tête de vierge de maïs » de l’Indien hopi Don C. Talayesva, contient des études critiques universitaires, des dossiers plastiques richement illustrés et des textes poétiques. Elle mériterait de faire l’objet de recherches – études littéraires et de l’histoire de la pensée et de la sociologie – au vu de son contenu et de l’originalité de son projet : née alors qu’après la mort de Breton le surréalisme se prolonge, elle cherche à le comprendre dans ses intentions et ses productions, tout en explorant sa descendance « oblique », grâce à son réseau de chercheurs et d’artistes, en particulier des États-Unis, d’Amérique latine et du Japon.
Pleine Marge [Full Fringe], « There shall be one more time »
Between 1985 and 2009, the review Pleine marge, owing its title to André Breton’s poem and devoted to “Surrealism and other modernities”, published 50 issues with two different publishing houses, Le Temps qu’il fait, based in Cognac, and then at Peeters, in Louvain. The “booklet” decorated with the “virgin head of maize” by the Hopi American-Indian Don C. Talayesva, contains academic criticism studies, richly illustrated visual arts dossiers along with poetical texts. Considering its content and the originality of the project, it would be worth researching on – in the field of literary studies, but also from the angles of history of thought and sociology – as it was born in a time when, following Breton’s death, surrealism still lived on, and it endeavoured to understand it in its intentions and its productions, while exploring its “oblique” offsprings with the help of an international network of researchers and artists, from the United States, Latin America and Japan in particular.
