Dreyfusard reviews in france : the emergence of an intellectual society
Regardless the diversity of the titles and the audience, the majority of reviews was largely engaged in the defense of Dreyfus. This significant engagement enables to measure the new importance of reviews in intellectual, political and cultural life. Through this, reviews deeply revealed themselves and their double function : producing a critical spirit and creating intellectual communities. A violent polemic against the « anti-Dreyfusards » will reinforce these special caracteristics, so that the Dreyfus defending reviews illuminate the emergence of an intellectual society at the turning of the century.
