The status of reviews in scientific communication
Using the concepts of scientific communication and the scientific sector to analyse the review, this article attempts, on the one hand, to give an account of the current situation in research concentrated on the scientific periodical as an object and, on the other hand, to define the « general philosophy » of a hypothetical research programme.
Lastly, it questions the future of this institution given the restructuring of modern science and the development of electronic networks which seem to herald a new era in communication between researchers.
