J’ai choisi pour qualifier la revue <i>84</i> le mot le moins approprié : revue indifférente. Animée d’une main de feu par Marcel Bisiaux, secondé par Henri Thomas, Alfred Kern et André Dhôtel, relayés par Georges Lambrichs, la revue <i>84</i> résulte de deux logiques. La première est individuelle et comprend les figures tutélaires de Gide, Artaud et Paulhan. La seconde relève des groupes qu’elle agrège provisoirement : le Grand Jeu et le Collège de ’Pataphysique, le surréalisme. Deux éditeurs se la disputent, Minuit pour la reprendre, Gallimard pour en absorber les forces individuelles. Déjà esquissées avant la création de la revue, les lignes individuelles tracées par les auteurs de <i>84</i> se poursuivront après sa disparition. Chacun de ses noms portant avec lui contradictions et complexités, l’ensemble apparaît comme un étoilement particulièrement riche. C’est cette complexité des figures qui fait l’intérêt de la revue.
<i>84</i> [The New Age] or the end of a world
In order to describe la revue <i>84</i> I have chosen the most ambiguous and the least fitting of all words: the indifferent review. Under Marcel Bisiaux’s fiery leadership, with Henri Thomas, Alfred Kern and André Dhôtel’s assistance, and the later involvement of Georges Lambrichs, la revue <i>84</i> is the result of two different logics. The first is an individual logic which features the guiding figures of Gide, Artaud and Paulhan. The second has to do with the groups that the review itself helps to assemble temporarily: le Grand jeu, le Collège de ’Pataphysique and the surrealist movement. Two publishing houses fight over it: Minuit to take it over, Gallimard to recruit its individual forces. The individual trajectories followed by the authors of la revue 84 had already been sketched before it was created and will continue after it disappeared. Each of their names bringing with them contradictions and complexities, all of them taken together seems like a particularly rich star-like ensemble. It is the complexity of these figures taken together that makes la revue <i>84</i> so peculiarly interesting.
