Mwà Véé naît lors des Accords de Matignon : les échos socio-politiques des années 90 y résonnent et, avec l’ADCK, elle a tenu une importante place dans la création artistique calédonienne allant au-delà d’une simple présentation de la richesse linguistique et culturelle du monde kanak. Ce support apporte quelque surprenante nouveauté en matière de forme et de composition. Une esthétique revuiste se dégage à travers les premiers numéros étudiés, provenant de la tradition orale océanienne : listes, répétitions, participation du public, “voyage” cyclique de la parole, place du personnage prestigieux… Les reflets d’un syncrétisme, entre performance et musée de papier, éclairent ses feuilles. L’oralité se trahit-elle en marquant de son empreinte un écrit qui pérennise autrement ?
How to compose a basket of words? Mwà Véé, Kanak cultural magazine (1993-2000)
Mwà Véé was born during the Matignon Agreements: the socio-political echoes of the 90s resonate there and, with the Agency for the Development of Kanak Culture (ADCK), it held an important place in New Caledonian artistic creation, well beyond a mere presentation of linguistic and cultural wealth of the Kanak world. This media brought surprising novelties in terms of form and composition. A specific aesthetic emerges through the first issues, inspired by the oral tradition of Oceania: lists, repetitions, participation of the public, cyclical “journey” of the word, the place occupied by the prestigious characters… The reflections of a syncretism, between performance and paper museum, illuminate its sheets. Is it a betrayal of orality when it marks with its imprint a writing that perpetuates in a different way?
