Daniel Dezeuze revient sur les circonstances qui amènent, après Mai 68, à la création de revue Peinture. Cahiers théoriques qui réunit les principaux artistes du mouvement Support/Surface (Marc Devade et Louis Cane, Vincent Bioulès…). Fondée pour la défense du groupe, la revue est animée par une volonté de faire une jonction – qui manquait alors en France – entre les arts plastiques et les avancées théoriques des sciences humaines. La proximité avec le groupe Tel Quel – en particulier Philippe Sollers – et son admiration pour la calligraphie chinoise sont précieux pour cette revue qui traite de deux champs : la peinture et le dessin. Les querelles idéologiques, la surenchère maoïste telquelienne dont Peinture. Cahiers théoriques peut paraître un auxiliaire, conduisent à l’éclatement du groupe : après la démission de Vincent Boulies et au 3e numéro de Daniel Dezeuze, la revue connait une deuxième phase sous la conduite de Cane et Devade.

Daniel Dezeuze recalls the circumstances that led to the creation of Peinture. Cahiers théoriques, following May 1968, bringing together the main artists of the Support/Surface movement (Marc Devade and Louis Cane, Vincent Bioulès, etc.). Founded for the defence of the group, the magazine was animated by a desire to make a junction – which was then lacking in France – between the visual arts and the theoretical advances in the human sciences. The proximity with the Tel Quel group – in particular Philippe Sollers – and his admiration for Chinese calligraphy were precious for this review, which dealt with two fields: painting and drawing. The ideological quarrels, the Maoist overturn of Tel quel, of which Peinture. Cahiers théoriques may seem like an auxiliary, led to the breakup of the group: following the resignation of Vincent Boulies and the 3rd issue by Daniel Dezeuze, the magazine underwent a second phase under the leadership of Cane and Devade.
